About

Hi, Iโ€™m Sara โ€” the maker behind Olive Silk.

If youโ€™ve been following me for a while, you might know my first project: Threads Monthly. I started it in 2020 as a sewing blog, sharing free tutorials, fabric guides, and inspiration to 1.5 million makers each year.

Olive Silk is the next chapter โ€” my dedicated brand for beginner-friendly sewing patterns.

Why Olive Silk patterns stand out

  • ๐Ÿงฉ Well-researched designs โ€” developed by deconstructing store-bought items so you can master professional construction techniques.
  • ๐Ÿงถ Fabric-tested โ€” patterns are trialed on multiple fabrics so I can share fabric-specific tips in each tutorial.
  • ๐Ÿ“ธ Crystal-clear instructions โ€” detailed step-by-step photos so you never feel lost.
  • ๐Ÿงต Sewing machine settings included โ€” suggested stitches, lengths, and tensions to help you get it right the first time.
  • ๐ŸŽฅ Video tutorials โ€” learn visually at your own pace, alongside the written guide.
  • ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ Paper-saving layouts โ€” optimized for both US Letter and A4, with as few pages as possible.
  • ๐Ÿ“ Dual measurements โ€” every pattern includes both inches and centimeters.

About me

Iโ€™ve been sewing since I was 16, and over the years Iโ€™ve honed my skills through both practice and formal training. I completed GCSE Textiles, Level 2 Pattern Cutting at Fashion Enter (the education wing of a leading UK garment manufacturer), studied draping at Morley College, and trained in tailoring at Fashion Enter with a teacher who also works on Savile Row.

Olive Silk is where I turn that experience into clear, approachable patterns โ€” designed to help beginners build skills, and give experienced sewists a smoother, faster make.
